Apart from general courses of membrane studies, the Membrane Engineering Group (MEG) also designs and provides special educational programs for students. These programs specifically address that how to improve students’ global communication skills as well as deepen their understanding of the industrial and social applications of membrane technologies.
Giving an engaging and technically professional presentation in English is no doubt one of the important skills in today’s globalized society. Nevertheless, a large number of Japanese students still obtain less opportunities to strengthen such skill via general courses. Concerning this problem, the MEG academic staff initiated English Presentation Camp (EPC) from academic year 2013. EPC is planned to be held once a week throughout the semester, and provides various learning opportunities as the follows.
Since many of the students are with strong willingness to know how their learned membrane techs can be applied in industries and benefit our society, MEG staff also organize a number of off-campus tours in related companies.
Thanks to the abundant industrial network which MEG has been building up for years, we are able to obtain kind assistances from various industrial partners as well as environmental authorities. Hence the industrial tours are mainly operated under such collaboration.
During the industrial tours, students will not only be guided and taught about the membrane techs applications in reality, but also experience how they can help solve the social and environmental problems. Furthermore, our industrial instructors will also share their working experiences with students, to let them acquire an image of working in a company.
MEG cooperates closely with the Center for Membrane and Film Technology (MAFTech Center) in Kobe University. By utilizing MAFTech Center’s global network, students in MEG have opportunities to go study abroad for maximum 1 academic year as an exchange student. Below shows the official academic partners of MAFTech Center up to 2013 which may be students’ host universities for the exchange program.
