Overview

Our research group promotes the development of medical devices such as regenerative medical products and other medical devices. These products are developed by forming a team of researchers from various fields of medicine and engineering, based on a shared understanding of the real needs of the actual medical field with doctors. Furthermore, in consideration of the state of medical care in a super-aging society, we will conduct everything from molecular design and synthesis to basic and clinical evaluation of materials in contact with the living body (biomaterials) that are expected to contribute to the development of future medicine, and clarify the functions of biomaterials from the perspective of their practical use. Based on organic synthesis, polymer science, and materials engineering, and in view of the importance of medical device development in medicine, we will ask the question from a clinical perspective, "What is biocompatibility?" from a clinical point of view. We will actively incorporate molding and processing technologies such as bio 3D printers, as well as mechanical, electrical, electronic, and information engineering methods, in our pursuit of medical device science that is unique to our country and that does not break down barriers between fields.

Research

Development of therapeutic soft biomaterials: from liquids to gels.

In the Graduate School of Medicine, in collaboration with physicians, we conduct basic and development research based on the medical device ecosystem up to the final practical application. We freely design and prototype biocompatible materials in solution, colloid, gel, and crystalline/amorphous solid forms according to medical needs, and evaluate their medical functions.

Cooperation

The team works with laboratories in Japan and abroad to promote joint research and actively promote personnel exchanges.
